Building a thriving planned giving program without some level of commitment from the board is extremely difficult. Like outright giving, we should strive for 100% board participation with planned giving. While I have never seen 100% participation, we should still strive for it.
Action Steps:
- Make sure planned giving is a part of every board and development committee meeting.
- Have someone speak at a board meeting about the opportunities for and importance of planned giving.
- Meet one-on-one with all board members and ask them to make a planned gift
- Have board members make thank-you calls to loyal donors. Super easy and super effective.
